Young People

Maybe I am still young, so people I met mostly are young.  A very big defect of young people is they think they know “many” about something or they like pretending that they actually know something.

They think understanding more things than other people do is understanding everything in the world and ironically this attitude shows how innocent they indeed are.  The tricky thing is, only people who are knowledgeable enough would they know how little they know about the world.

People like to praise some smart people for their humbleness.  Yes, to some extent they are praiseworthy because they are not only smart but also not arrogant. However, my opinion is, intelligence and humbleness are not totally independent. They influence each other.  And I think the interaction gets stronger and stronger when time is passing by.  Once you know more about something, you know there’s something you need to know more in order to complete the concept you knew.  This process happens all the time while you are learning, then somehow you would realize “Oh my…There are so many things that I still do not know!!”  That’s why successful people are humble.  They study much enough to know they have to be very humble, especially when those experts are good at multiple fields.  So, it’s quite weird to praise intelligent people for their humbleness; they’re certainly humble.  If no, then I’m pretty sure they don’t know things enough.

I think that’s young people’s problem.  Old people have problems as well, but different one.  Ah! I kept criticizing many things!  Seems like I have to study and think more! :(
